Announcement from SAU 46
Appointment of the next Superintendent
At the May 7th SAU Board Meeting Dr. Randy Wormald informed the Board he would retire at the conclusion of his contract in June of 2026. Naturally this announcement led into a discussion of planning for the next Superintendent. It was noted that Catherine Masterson has essentially completed the longest job interview in history. We have seen Catherine’s performance. We know exactly who we are hiring for this extremely vital role. We have directly observed her response, leadership, and resilience through a very challenging time for the SAU. How she responds under intense pressure and stress with remarkable composure sets her apart as a natural leader. Catherine is a strong and committed leader who inspires trust and balances strategic thinking with deep compassion for students, staff, and the broader community. These real life observations are more than we would ever learn, or truly know about a candidate by conducting multiple, job interviews.
In addition, all of the Board members felt that Catherine was the right person for the job. The Board received overwhelming support and endorsement for Catherine from faculty, staff, and community members within the two districts.
The superintendent position entails significant responsibility and it is the job of the Board to make the best choices for both districts. As a result, the SAU board is very proud to appoint Catherine Masterson as the next Superintendent of SAU 46 beginning July 1, 2026.
Thanks to all the students who participated!
